Entries are now being accepted for the 2018 AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards. Entries must have been published, broadcast or posted online during the contest year: 16 July 2017 to 15 July 2018.
Since 2015, when we opened the contest to journalists worldwide, nearly 40 percent of our winners have been international entrants. We present two awards in each category: a Gold award ($5,000) and a Silver award ($3,500). The categories are: large newspaper, small newspaper, magazine, video spot news/feature, video in-depth, audio (radio or podcast), online and children’s science news.
Read the Contest Rules and Frequently Asked Questions before submitting. In the FAQ, we discuss the change from Television categories to Video categories this year.
Note: If the submitted work was in a language other than English, you must provide an English translation. See further discussion in the FAQ.
The awards recognize outstanding reporting for a general audience on the sciences, engineering and mathematics. Stories on the environment, energy, science policy and health qualify if they deal in a substantive way with the underlying science. Independent committees of journalists select the winning entries.
The awards will be presented at the AAAS Annual Meeting in February 2019 in Washington, D.C. Travel and lodging expenses for one person are included with each award. For questions, contact email@example.com.
